Bass Coast Shire Council

Bass Coast is one of Victoria's fastest-growing rural municipalities and needed to upgrade their wayfinding and signage strategy to support the growing number of residents and visitors exploring the region.

Working to build equity into the existing Bass Coast Shire Council brand, we designed a signage and messaging strategy that balances inspiration and connection to place, with efficient and accessible communication of critical information. This included streamlining the number of signage categories to address user needs, as opposed to location alone.

The sweeping curve of the graphic device has been lifted from the Bass Coast Shire Council logo, creating a strong link back to the core brand while evoking the unique natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. This is paired with a tone of voice and information hierarchy strategy that ensures audiences can glean the most important message of each sign at a glance, before choosing to engage more deeply.

These assets come together to create a functional and impactful signage and wayfinding strategy and design that elevates the values of the area, clearly denotes Council ownership of assets, and provides a consistent acknowledgement of Country.
